Nine Surefire Ways to Renew Your Bedroom

When you are giving someone a tour of your home, you shouldn't be embarrassed to show off your bedroom. Often people put a great deal of care and attention into their kitchens and living rooms, but completely neglect their bedrooms! However, the fact of the matter is that the bedrooms should be considered just as significant as the other rooms. After all, this should be the most relaxing room on your house. With these thoughts in mind, we have compiled a list of the easiest ways that you can makeover your bedroom without spending a fortune.

1. Take a look at your walls Consider changing the walls in your bedroom. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint can make all the difference. Not only can paint add color, it can also serve to make the dimensions of your room look better. For example, if you have high ceilings, a darker color of paint can provide the effect that the ceilings are lower. Similarly, if you have a small space, using a lighter paint color, can make your room look larger. It is also possible to use different paint colors on opposite walls to make a room look wider as well.

2. It's a sham not to use shams! Ok, maybe that headline is overstating things a bit. However, truly, using shams and accent pillows in your bedroom can make a huge impact for a relatively small amount of money. In fact, if you coordinate accent pieces with your bedding, it can provide your room with a uniform, cohesive look. If you match shams and accent pieces with your bedding, it can create a softer look. On the other hand, if you contrast colors and design elements, it can really serve to emphasize the bed itself. Another popular choice you may want to consider is the Euro sham. These oversized shams can add a dramatic note.

3. Add brightness with new fixtures One great thing about adding new light fixtures is that this is a relatively easy process. Nice fixtures can also serve to make a room seem more sophisticated and elegant. However, be sure to use a bit of strategy when adding lights. After all, they do serve an important purpose. With that point in mind, be sure to provide ample light in areas where you will get dressed or put on makeup. Of course, the light surrounding your actual bed should not be harsh. Make sure that you have subtle understated light that won't be too blinding when you first get up in the morning.

4. Add a headboard Many people don't add headboards to their bed, because they think that they will be too expensive. However, the fact of the matter is that headboards come in a wide variety of price ranges. Plus, you can always make a headboard yourself. This, in fact, can be a fun DIY project where you measure the size of your bed and then use paint, upholstery or wallpaper to create your own. These personalized headboards can really dramatically improve the look of a bedroom.

5. Change up your bedding While we are considering the bed, why not upgrade your bedding materials? If you have never stopped to check out the wide variety of styles, colors and materials of sheets and comforters, you will be pleasantly surprised. Most people can find a great fit for their personality and taste. If you want something truly exotic, for example, why not add a leopard print bed set? Or if you are feeling more subdued, there are always gorgeous pastels and soft cottons to choose from. You will be surprised how different your room can look simply by adding a new comforter!

6. Don't neglect the flooring It is easy to take flooring for granted, but this is another element that can improve or detract from the look of your room. You donít have to spend a fortune either. Many companies offer great deals on flooring. If you happen to like your current bedroom floor, you may still want to consider adding a large rug. While darker floors can make rooms look smaller, a well-placed light colored area rug can serve to create a gorgeous and classic appearance.

7. Bedroom windows need attention Adding window treatments may add more of a statement in your bedroom than you might initially think. For example, longer drapes that reach the floor make your walls look longer. This change can give the room the appearance of grander ceilings. You can also contrast the window dressings with the wall color in your bedroom. This allows the window treatments to stand out as an important element in the room. Keep in mind that you can also use valances, but they do not provide any privacy. Therefore, if you use valances, be sure to pair them with drapes.

8. New hardware for doors and furniture Another trick that you might not have thought of is replacing old handles and knobs with new ones. This change can also improve the look of your dressers and bureaus in the process. Donít forget the doorknobs!

9. A messy room is not a good thing Do you remember how your mother was always telling you, ìclean up your room?î Well, as an adult, you still need to keep this rule in mind. Be sure to carefully analyze what is in your bedroom. Perhaps there are items that you can either throw away or put into storage. A clutter-free room will always look better.
